“That is part of the beauty of all literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you're not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”

  1. When I was little, my favorite book was "The Princess Diaries" because it's the story of an ordinary teenager who become a wealthy and lovely princess... The dream of all the little girls !

  2. When I was about 7-8 years/old, I was fond of reading books, especially Roald Dahl's ones. My favorite book was definitely George's Marvellous Medecine (written in 1981 by Roald Dahl of course). It tells the story of George, a regular kid who lives in a farm with his parents and his mean and creepy granny. One day, in spite of giving his grandma her medecine, he gives her a strange magic medecine he randomly makes with several ingredients collected all over the house. It makes the grandmother grow as tall as the house and it makes the animals grow oversized. It's a book all children can like and I liked as a child because it is short, it contains great illustrations by Roald's co-worker Quentin Blake, it's easy to read and the plot is really funny. Each child can recognize himself (/herself) in George because all kids love making random potions and see what happens next (I was particularly fond of that). Esteban RENAUD.

  3. When I was little, I mostly red fairy tails, my favorite one was "The little mermaid", because Ariel is definitely the type of character I admire: adventurous, brave, who goes after what she wants (and also because she was a mermaid I have to admit)

  5. I don't remember most of the books I read when I was a child. I know I read the Percy Jackson series back in 5th grade and loved it, because it was funny and it talked about greek mythology, which is a fascinating topic. But the one book I loved, loved, loved is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I read it when I was 7, and loved it because of the magic, the characters, the storyline... but mostly because of the mystery. I loved making theories (I still do); I think this was the most mysterious out of all Harry Potter books. Hermione was my hero and I wanted to be just like her.

  8. When I was little my favourite book was "Dikkie Dik". It's a story about a fat cat with red fur who is funny, very sweet and a little naughty. I loved this book because my parents used to read it to me and I always imagined what my cats would do when no one was home.

  9. When I was about 7 years old, my favourite book was "Anna het rode elfje" (it's totally in Dutch) by Daisy Meadow. I don't remember much from it except a little girl meeting a friendly fairy, then becoming friends with her... I also remember I'd loved this book so much I even took it to school for a very small book presentation.

  10. When I was little, my favorite book was Matilda by Roald Dahl. I was astonished by her intelligence. She could make objects move by focusing on them and I've always wanted to do that. I also liked the strength of the relationship she entertained with Miss Candy, her teacher, who tried to help her out.

  11. When I was a kid my favorite book was "Fool on the Hill" by Matt Ruff. I still love reading this book because it's the perfect marriage between reality and fantasy. The hero is an author named Stephen Titus George who teaches at Cornell university in Ithaca, New York. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action, adventure and a good laugh while reading. (This book does contain a good amount of swearing, soooo....)

  15. When I was little, I think my favorite book was Matilda, by Roald Dahl. First of all, Roald Dahl is one of my favorite authors, and Matilda is such an interesting character. She is very intelligent and cultured, especially for her age (she is five years old and she reads Dickens) and most of the people don't understand her. Her parents think reading is stupid and the only person who will help her is Mrs. Honey, her teacher. I wanted to be like Matilda, and have powers just like her (she can move and lift objects with her mind).

  16. When I was a child, I was fond of Disney’s books: my favorite story was « Cinderella »because I was a little girl who liked princesses. The character really interested me: in fact, Cinderella is treated like a servant and, thank to magic and her kindness, she changes her destiny becoming a princess. That made me dream...

  17. When I was little, my favourite book was The Burnt Cottage, the first book in the 'Five Find-Outers' series by Enid Blyton. It is the story of five children - Larry, Daisy, Pip, Bets and Fatty (and Fatty's dog Buster of course) - who, one day, see a cottage burning down near their village. Together, they decide to find out who set fire to it, but they are thwarted by the local policeman, Mr. Goon. They manage to solve the crime in the end, however, despite him. I loved this book because I liked the mystery (at that age it seemed really exciting and hard to solve...) and because I related to the characters. I got really attached to them after having read the other books!

  18. When I was little my favourite book was Harry Potter! I was fond of it because he was an unlucky boy with no friends, an awful family and one day he discovers that he has magic's powers and that he's gonna study at Hogwarts school of Wichtcraft and Wizardry! So I wanted to be him because he sees a lots of marvellous things and has a lots of adventures! Unfortunately I never received the letter...

  19. When I was little, my favorite book was Harry Potter and the Azkaban Prisoner, which I think we all know about. In this book, Harry is thirteen, and Sirius Black, his godfather (but Harry doesn't know about that yet) has escaped from Azkaban, the sorcellers' prison. And Harry meets him and loves him, because he is the last real member of his family

  20. When I was little my favorite book was Cherub. I read and loved all 12 books of the series. I think I enjoyed these books a lot because I could see myself through the main character and because I love police novels. A new series of Cherub has been started but I prefer the original one. That makes me discover new styles, themes and authors

  21. As many others, my favorite book when I was little was probably the Harry Potter series. I really liked these books because when I started reading them, I was more or less the same age as Harry, and as I was intrigued by magic, well I could really see myself as the main character. I liked the series so much that I must have read it about seven times before my parents had to force me to read something else!
However, I wouldn't be able to give a particular book of the series that I liked more than the others... maybe the first, the fourth or the fifth.

  22. When I was little, my favorite book was the Tobie Lolness series. I read it when I was about eight years old and I really liked all the suspens and the turnarounds of the books.
The books tell the story of a boy, Tobie Lolness, who is 0.1 inches high who lives with all his people up on a tree. Through a big deal of adventures, he manages to save his tree from destruction by the greedy dictator, Joe Mitch.
I re-read it last year and I think I didn't get at the time when I first read it how deep it was : it is a small mirror of today's society. It critizes oil exploitation, abuse of power, censorship, ...
It was really fun to re-discover these books and I was really surprised to find such serious issues in a book for kids! But even if I'm twice as old as I was then I love it even more!

    1. I think it is good to re-read books you liked as a kid because you always discover or find out new things or issues. It is also really nostalgic! It is the same thing when you watch a film again, you see or discover things you hadn't dicover yet.

  23. When I was little, my favorite series of books were "The Princess Diaries" by Meg Cabot. I loved this book because it was a simple New-Yorker, Mia, who's mother is an artist, who become a fantastic princess. But she keep a normal life, with her friends, boyfriend and family. These books were for every girl the dream becoming true! (Even for me, even if I've always wanted to be a knight)

  24. When I was little my favourite book was "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" by Jeff Kinney. I'm not a big reader and I never was. It's not a difficult book to read but nevertheless at the time (I would be about eight then) I was really proud when I read it. I finished it in about an hour and a half! I really loved this book because its just a story of a High school kid and anyone can relate to it. It was a lot of fun to read.

  25. When I was younger, my favorite book was "Tobie Lolness" by Thimothée de Fombelle. Tobie, 1.5 mm tall, is a member of the people of the tree, who lives in a monumental oak and hasn't got any knowledge of the rest of the world. Through the pages, we follow the character's amazing adventures (attacks of giant insects, betrayals, exile,...) and it's hard to stop to read ! But it's not only an adventure book, it contains a hidden message which denounces some burning issues that nowadays society has to deal with. I still love reading this story, especially when I need to escape reality and give wings to my imagination.

  26. When I was little I only read books about dinosaurs. Any book related closely or not to them who catch my attention in a matter of seconds. I could spend hours reading the same books again and again, and I only left them to put on the role of a diplodocus, a tyrannosaurus or a pterodactyl and go terrorize my family.
